Practical workforce solutions, when you need them.

Walker Fenland helps healthcare and social care organisations deal with workforce challenges that are complex, ongoing or difficult to move forward.

We provide independent support with workforce planning, education and career pathways, leadership, staff retention, governance and service improvement. We bring additional experience and capacity when it is needed.

Sometimes the cause of a problem is not clear. Different parts of an organisation may see it differently, or a plan that looked right on paper may not be working in practice.

We look across the organisation to understand what is getting in the way, what needs to change and what practical support will help make that change happen.

The Problem We Address

What looks like the problem rarely is.

Recruitment, training, confidence and retention problems rarely exist on their own. They are often signs of something deeper — weak onboarding, limited progression, inconsistent leadership, poor communication or gaps in governance.

  • Leadership
  • Governance
  • Culture

When the cause is missed, organisations can spend time and money fixing the same problem again and again. Walker Fenland helps identify what is really happening, so the response deals with the cause rather than repeatedly patching the symptom.

How We Work

Understand the problem. Build the right response. See it through.

Every organisation is different, but the way we think about workforce improvement follows a consistent path — grounded in listening, diagnosis and practical delivery.

01

Listen

Understand the organisation, its people and the pressures being experienced. This begins with hearing different perspectives and building a clear picture of what is happening in practice.

Where Walker Fenland can help

You do not need to know which service you need before contacting us.

We begin with the problem your organisation is facing and shape the right level of support around it.

Area of support

Understand what is happening

Workforce reviews and diagnostics, training-needs analysis, staff retention and engagement.

What we do

Building the workforce the future of health and social care demands.

Health and social care is changing shape. Services are working closer together, roles are being redrawn and organisations are being asked to do more with the people they already have. Walker Fenland works with providers to strengthen the workforce, leadership, governance and organisational capability that this next period will rely on.

We are an implementation partner rather than a source of advice. We stay close to the detail, work with the people who have to make change stick, and leave organisations better able to handle whatever comes next.

Workforce transformation

Building workforce plans that hold up over time, so recruitment, retention, career development and staffing decisions all pull in the same direction.

Leadership development

Growing leaders who can hold a team together through change, with clearer communication, stronger culture and honest accountability.

Education and professional development

Designing learning that builds real capability and confidence at work, and shows up in better outcomes for patients and staff alike.

Governance and quality improvement

Strengthening governance, assurance and the everyday systems behind safe, effective and consistently high quality services.

Organisational improvement

Working alongside your teams to understand operational pressure, find the root cause and put practical improvements in place that show measurable results.

Strategy into delivery

Turning workforce ambitions and improvement plans into actions that can actually be delivered, embedded and sustained once we step away.

About Sarah Walker

Sarah Walker, RGN, PgCert Advanced Practice, PNA, Practice Educator

Sarah Walker is a Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of experience across frontline nursing, general practice, advanced practice, healthcare education, workforce development and NHS leadership.

Her career has taken her from direct patient care and nurse management to developing workforce programmes, education strategies and career pathways across healthcare.

That experience means Sarah understands the pressures at different levels of an organisation. She understands what frontline staff need, what managers are trying to hold together and what senior leaders are expected to deliver.

Through Walker Fenland, Sarah helps organisations step back, understand what is really happening and create a practical way forward. She does not simply produce a plan and hand it over. She works with the people involved to help the change make sense and take hold.
